Nicholas Rose

Nicholas Rose was born in West Palm Beach, Florida and trained at the Colburn Dance Academy in Los Angeles, California and The HARID Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida both on full scholarship. At age 19 Mr. Rose was recruited by the Dance Theatre of Harlem, and toured with them extensively around the world before being recruited by The National Ballet of Canada as a member of the Corps de Ballet in 2018.

Mr. Rose has danced a number of works at Dance Theatre of Harlem and the National Ballet of Canada by notable choreographers such as Christopher Wheeldon, George Balanchine, Nacho Duato, Ulysses Dove, Glen Tetly, Ronald Hynd, and Francesca Harper (Ballet Frankfurt’s first Black female dancer). While at Canada’s National Ballet, Rose had the opportunity to work with notable choreographers such as Hamburg Ballet’s artistic director, John Neumeier and former Ballet Frankfurt artistic director and one of todays leading choreographers, William Forsythe. It was Forsythe who helped inspire him and even  suggested to Rose he bring his talents to Germany. While Rose was living in New York City, he was a mentee of the late German born master teacher Wilhelm Burmann. Rose credits much of his knowledge in dancing, teaching, and coaching from Burmann. Rose has taught for a number of schools in New York City, California, Cleveland, St. Louis, Kansas City, and Florida.

Mr. Rose has collaborated individually with a wide range of world renowned dancers in companies such as New York City Ballet, Staatsballett Berlin, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Boston Ballet, Vienna Staatsoper Ballett, and the National Ballet of Canada, to name a few.

In the summer of 2019, Rose’s choreography made its first premier overseas in Germany at the Ballet Dortmund international ballet gala, choreographed on former Stuttgart Ballet principal dancer, Evan McKie, and former Bolshoi principal ballerina, Svetlana Lunkina. Currently, Rose is living in Berlin. He wishes to bring his accumulation of dance experiences from around the world to Berlin, as well as teach the younger generation to reach their fullest potential, while maintaining a safe work environment. It is a mission for Mr. Rose to bring the teaching method taught to him by the late Wilhem Burmann back to Germany. He is so excited to be sharing his knowledge and creativity with Ballet22 for the upcoming performance of “Ballet du Funk”
